House of the Rising Sun (Old West version)

Simple melody sheet music.  Simple piano sheet with the Animals's arpeggio.

Slow blues version from 1942.  The Animals, 1964.  Muse, 2016.  Chase Holfelder, 2018.

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun.
It's been the ruin of many a poor fool
For I, oh Lord, am one.

My mother was a tailor,
My pa, a hired gun.
My brother turned a sailor
To escape the Rising Sun.

My sweetheart was a gambler
Down in New Orleans.
He woke up of the wrong side of debt...
I still can hear his screams.

If I'd listened to what my mother said,
I'd be at home today.
But I was a young and foolish poor girl,
Let a gambler lead me astray.

I came out west to Salt City
For I was on the run.
It takes just disappearance or death
To escape the Rising Sun.

One foot is on the platform,
The other on the train.
Oh, I'll become a blacksmith
To break the ball and chain.

Oh God, please save my mother.
Oh God, please save my son.
Oh God, please save your children
From the House of the Rising Sun.

My mother died in poverty,
And I will do the same.
Oh death, oh death, come down on me,
Release me from my shame.

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun.
It's been the ruin of many a poor fool
For I, oh Lord, am one.

Greensleeves

I like the Blackmore's night version. But more traditional tunage is good too.  Or something that's most familiar. Simple sheet music

Alas, my love, you do me wrong,
To cast me off discourteously.
For I have loved you well and long,
Delighting in your company.

Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my Lady Greensleeves.

Alas, my love, that you should own
A heart of wanton vanity,
So must I meditate alone
Upon your insincerity.

(Chorus)

Your vows you've broken, like my heart,
Oh, why did you so enrapture me?
Now I remain in a world apart
But my heart remains in captivity.

(Chorus)

If you intend thus to disdain,
It does the more enrapture me,
And even so, I still remain
A lover in captivity.

(Chorus)

I have been ready at your hand,
To grant whatever you would crave,
I have both wagered life and land,
Your love and good-will for to have.

(Chorus)

Thou couldst desire no earthly thing,
But still thou hadst it readily.
Thy music still to play and sing;
And yet thou wouldst not love me.

(Chorus)

I bought thee kerchiefs for thy head,
That were wrought fine and gallantly;
I kept thee at both board and bed,
Which cost my purse well-favoredly.

(Chorus)

I bought thee petticoats of the best,
The cloth so fine as it might be;
I gave thee jewels for thy chest,
And all this cost I spent on thee.

(Chorus)

Thy smock of silk, both fair and white,
With gold embroidered gorgeously;
Thy petticoat of sendal right,
And these I bought thee gladly.

(Chorus)

My men were clothed all in green,
And they did ever wait on thee;
All this was gallant to be seen,
And yet thou wouldst not love me.

(Chorus)

They set thee up, they took thee down,
They served thee with humility;
Thy foot might not once touch the ground,
And yet thou wouldst not love me.

(Chorus)

'Tis, I will pray to God on high,
That thou my constancy mayst see,
And that yet once before I die,
Thou wilt vouchsafe to love me.

(Chorus)

Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu,
To God I pray to prosper thee,
For I am still thy lover true,
Come once again and love me.

(Chorus)

Follow Me Up to Carlow

Ok obviously I like the rambunctious versions that sound like parties. Here's Young Dubliners but Planxty is good too. Simple sheet music

Lift MacCahir Óg your face brooding o'er the old disgrace
That black Fitzwilliam stormed your place, drove you to the Fern
Grey said victory was sure soon the firebrand he'd secure;
Until he met at Glenmalure with Fiach MacHugh O'Byrne.

Curse and swear Lord Kildare
Fiach will do what Fiach will dare
Now Fitzwilliam, have a care
Fallen is your star, low
Up with halbert out with sword
On we'll go for by the Lord
Fiach MacHugh has given the word,
Follow me up to Carlow.

See the swords of Glen Imayle, they're flashing o'er the English Pale
See all the children of the Gael, beneath O'Byrne's banners
Rooster of a fighting stock, would you let a Saxon cock
Crow out upon an Irish rock? Fly up and teach him manners!

Curse and swear Lord Kildare
Fiach will do what Fiach will dare
Now Fitzwilliam, have a care
Fallen is your star, low
Up with halbert out with sword
On we'll go for by the Lord
Fiach MacHugh has given the word,
Follow me up to Carlow.

From TaSaggart to Clonmore, there flows a stream of Saxon gore
O, great is Rory Óg O'More, at sending the loons to Hades.
White is sick and Grey is fled, now for black Fitzwilliam's head
We'll send it over dripping red, to Queen Liza and her ladies.

Curse and swear Lord Kildare
Fiach will do what Fiach will dare
Now Fitzwilliam, have a care
Fallen is your star, low
Up with halbert out with sword
On we'll go for by the Lord
Fiach MacHugh has given the word,
Follow me up to Carlow.

Cockles & Mussels

Cockles and Mussels - I haven't found a recording I like of this

In Dublin's fair city,
Where the Girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes,
On sweet Molly Malone,
As she wheeled her wheel barrow,
Through the streets broad and narrow,
Crying cockles and mussels,
Alive alive o!

Alive alive o!
Alive alive o!
Crying cockles and mussels,
Alive alive o!

She was a fish monger,
And sure it was no wonder,
For so were her
Father and Mother before,
And they both wheeled their barrow,
Through the streets broad and narrow,
Crying cockles and mussels,
Alive alive o!

Alive alive o!
Alive alive o!
Crying cockles and mussels,
Alive alive o!

She died of a fever,
And no one could save her,
And that was the end
Of sweet Molly Malone,
But her ghost wheels her barrow,
Through the streets broad and narrow,
Crying cockles and mussels,
Alive alive o!

Rocky Road to Dublin

Rocky Road to Dublin - This is said to be one of the most difficult folk tunes to sing/play... Here's violin + piano music

While in the merry month of May from me home I started,
Left the girls of Tuam so sad and broken hearted,
Saluted father dear, kissed me darling mother,
Drank a pint of beer, me grief and tears to smother,
Then off to reap the corn, leave where I was born,
Cut a stout black thorn to banish ghosts and goblins;
Bought a pair of brogues rattling o'er the bogs
And fright'ning all the dogs on the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah !

In Mullingar that night I rested limbs so weary,
Started by daylight next morning blithe and early,
Took a drop of pure to keep me heart from sinking;
That's a Paddy's cure whenever he's on drinking.
See the lassies smile, laughing all the while
At me curious style, 'twould set your heart a bubblin'
Asked me was I hired, wages I required,
I was almost tired of the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah !

In Dublin next arrived, I thought it such a pity
To be soon deprived a view of that fine city.
So then I took a stroll, all among the quality;
Me bundle it was stole, all in a neat locality.
Something crossed me mind, when I looked behind,
No bundle could I find upon me stick a wobblin'
Enquiring for the rogue, they said me Connaught brogue
Wasn't much in vogue on the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah !

From there I got away, me spirits never falling,
Landed on the quay, just as the ship was sailing.
The Captain at me roared, said that no room had he;
When I jumped aboard, a cabin found for Paddy.
Down among the pigs, played some hearty rigs,
Danced some hearty jigs, the water round me bubbling;
When off Holyhead I wished meself was dead,
Or better for instead on the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah !

Well the boys of Liverpool, when we safely landed,
Called meself a fool, I could no longer stand it.
Blood began to boil, temper I was losing;
Poor old Erin's Isle they began abusing.
"Hurrah me soul" says I, me Shillelagh I let fly.
Some Galway boys were nigh and saw I was a hobble in,
With a load "hurray !" joined in the affray.
We quitely cleared the way for the rocky road to Dublin.

One, two, three four, five,
Hunt the Hare and turn her down
the rocky road and all the way to Dublin,
Whack follol de rah !

Raggle Taggle Gypsy

Raggle Taggle Gypsy - I love the Chieftan's version

Black is the Color

Black is the ColorI love the  Fiddlesticks version of this
Black black black is the color of my true love`s hair
His lips are like some roses fair
The sweetest face and the gentlest hands.
I love the ground whereon he stands

For black is the color of my true love's hair
His lips are like some roses fair
The sweetest face and the gentlest hands.
I love the ground whereon he stands

I love my love and well he knows
I love the ground whereon he goes.
If he on earth no more I see
My life shall surely leave me

Black black black is the color of my true love`s hair
His lips are like some roses fair
The sweetest face and the gentlest hands.
I love the ground whereon he stands

I go to trouble some to mourn and weep
But satisfied I never can sleep
I'll write him a letter, a few short lines
I'll suffer death ten thousand times

A winter's past and the leaves are green
The time has past that we have seen
But still I hope the time will come
When you and I will be as one

Black black black is the color of my true love's hair

Secret Tunnel

Wrote some lyrics to make it a whole song!

Two lovers, forbidden from one another
A war divides their people
And a mountain divides them apart.
These lovers made a pact to one another
With the power of their hearts
No mountain could keep them apart.

Secret tunnel! Secret tunnel!
Through the mountain!
Secret secret secret secret tunnel!

The walls would move and the tunnels would change
Only they knew the way through
And their names were Oma and Shu.
They dreamed of a city of peace and prosperity
Built from the earth by their hands.
They wished for a new land.

Secret tunnel! Secret tunnel!
Through the mountain!
Secret secret secret secret tunnel!

And if you go in, you must follow your heart
And your love will lead you to light.
But if you do not trust the power of love,
You will surely get lost and die.

Secret tunnel! Secret tunnel!
Through the mountain!
Secret secret secret secret tunnel!

Goodbye Muggle World

My parents are dentists
They know nothing of my wizarding world
And neither did I until
My letter from Hogwarts unfurled

They say that they love me
But I kind of wonder if they do
Cuz the truth is that they wanted me
To go to dental school

But it turns out I'm a witch

And I can't wait to go back to Hogwarts
And learn Potions and Charms and Arithmancy
I say goodbye to the Muggle world
I love to read Hogwarts, a History
I'm a witch and I will always be
I love being a witch

I spend my holidays at the Burrow
I never see my family
I much prefer my wizard friends
The Muggle world depresses me

And I can't wait to go back to Hogwarts
And learn Potions and Charms and Arithmancy
I say goodbye to the Muggle world
I love to read Hogwarts, a History
I'm a witch and I will always be
I love being a witch

At Hogwarts I shrunk my teeth
At Hogwarts I smoothed my hair
In the Muggle world they always laughed
In the Muggle world they didn't care

I know everything about being a witch
I practiced my magic as soon as I could
I picked up on all the slang
I know the spells that everyone should

And I can't wait to go back to Hogwarts
And learn Potions and Charms and Arithmancy
I say goodbye to the Muggle world
I love to read Hogwarts, a History
I'm a witch and I will always be
I love being a witch

I changed my parent's memories
And moved them far away
I said it was a sacrifice
But I'd rather be with Ronald any day

I say goodbye to the Muggle world
I'm a witch and I will always be
I love to read Hogwarts, a History
I love my Ronald Weasley
I love being a witch

Die Tonight

I've been sent down to the Chamber
And I don't know what to do
Her bones will lie here forever
Means someone will die before this is through

Stone behind and stone ahead
In the eyes of the dreaded basilisk
She lies on the ground, her hair is red
And I know that there's a risk
That she might

Die tonight
By the powers in my hands
I won't let you
Die tonight
By the powers in my hands
I won't let you die

"She won't wake," he said, soft and cold
His eyes glint with a hungry red
A handsome boy, sixteen years old
His memory no longer dead

Tom Marvolo Riddle
It means "I am Lord Voldemort"
And I'm here in the middle
Knowing very well
That she is here to

Die tonight
By the powers in my hands
I won't let you
Die tonight
By the powers in my hands
I won't let you die

Then came the song, sweet and warm
The phoenix and the Hat of Sort-
ing, when I needed it the most
Out came the sword of Gryffindor

The phoenix plucked the serpent's sight
My only thought is that Ginny might

Die tonight
By the sword in my hands
I won't let you
Die tonight
By the sword in my hands
I won't let you die

And I fought the mighty basilisk
Long into the night
And I wield the sword of Gryffindor
With all of loyalty's might
And the serpent fell
And the Dark Lord screamed
And the phoenix shed a tear
And I know that I'll be happy
If Ginny's always near

Die tonight
By the powers in my hands
I won't let you
Die tonight
By the powers in my hands
I won't let you

Die tonight
By the sword in my hands
I won't let you
Die tonight
By the sword in my hands
I won't let you die
